Spanish citadel on a hill in Hvar with four round towers and buildings for storing gunpowder.
Perched on a hill and overlooking the city, the fortress that protected the port, known as the Spanish citadel, saw its first construction work begin at the end of the 13th century, under Venetian, not Hispanic, rule, and was completed in the 16th century. It included four round towers, buildings for storing gunpowder, a prison, a cistern and a chapel. Everything to hold against the Ottoman siege, during the great attack of 1571
