HVAR THEATER
Historical theater in neo-baroque style with an auditorium in Hvar, which preserves two mural scenographies.
Hvar's historic theater is located on the second floor of the Arsenal, in the town's small harbor. On the lintel of the entrance door, an inscription indicates the year 1612. The auditorium with boxes dates back to 1803, the year the Theatre Society was founded. The Neo-Baroque style dates back to the mid-19th century. Two mural scenographies, dating from 1819 and 1900, have been preserved. Restoration of the historic monument is currently underway, and access to the theater is restricted.
