National square to the north-east of Diocletian's palace with a tower whose mission was to impose calm and submission to the inhabitants.

To the northwest of the Diocletian Palace, the National Square, with the peristyle, is the other central point of Split. The Venetian presence, linked to a period of economic and urban development, has strongly influenced architecture. At that time, the rector's palace and city hall were built, buildings destroyed and partially rebuilt in the 19th century. The tower, fortified by the occupants' garrison, was designed to impose calm and submission on the inhabitants.

Magnifique place avec de très belles maisons, des terrasses de café où il fait bon s'arrêter boire un bon café. Le sol blanc agrandi la place ,l'hotel de ville en ressort d'autant plus.

Très bel endroit et très connu, que de monde quelque soit l'heure (sauf peut être tôt le matin ou en fin de journée) effectivement vous pouvez tomber sur des animations que vous suivrez assis (quelques coussins) sur le restant des tribunes antiques, c'est aussi le lieu de passage obligé de votre promenade pédestre de la vieille ville.
