TEMPLE DE JUPITER
The Temple of Jupiter, located in Diocletian's palace, is a remarkable vestige of Roman antiquity. Built in the 4ᵉ century, it was dedicated to the god Jupiter, a symbol of imperial power and protection. This small rectangular temple features a ceiling decorated with finely carved coffered motifs. In the Middle Ages, it was transformed into a baptistry dedicated to St. John the Baptist, and a sarcophagus of Bishop John of Ravenna was added. The façade is guarded by a statue of an Egyptian sphinx, testifying to Emperor Diocletian's taste for foreign art.
