200 km west of Tana, Tsiroanomandidy offers one of the biggest zebu markets in Madagascar (70,000 heads per year). A must-see if you are in the area on a Saturday! This region, called Beraiketa, is inhabited by the Sakalavas and all kinds of immigrants. The city was built during the reign of RadamaI, who decreed that he was the only master of the region, literally "there can't be two to command". Today, it is an urban crossroads without much charm, but which constitutes a welcome stopover on the road to the west, towards Maintirano. It is possible to stay and, of course, to eat there.
