Nestled in the fertile valley formed by the Morsynus River, this UNESCO-listed site in 2017 has two constituent parts: the first covers the archaeological site of Aphrodisias following the city walls. The second includes the marble quarries that extend to the northeast of the city. The temple of Aphrodite dates from the 3rd century BC. The city of Aphrodisias was built a century later. The prosperity of the city emanated from the marble quarries and the works of the sculptors of the city. The streets were organized around the theater, the agora, the temples and two thermal baths.
