20 km from Denizli, it is one of the most visited sites in Turkey. Natural pools, white as "cotton castles". The phenomenon was caused by a hot water source rich in calcium bicarbonate which is transformed, when it reaches the surface, into carbon dioxide and calcium carbonate. The dioxide evaporates but the carbonate, white in color, petrifies. The water digs into the rock creating these spectacular terraces. The spring is in the center of the ancient Hierapolis. It took thousands of years for the limestone concretions to form this spectacle. Visitors walk barefoot to preserve the site.
