It was built between 1419 and 1421 by the architect Hacı Ivaz Paşa on behalf of Sultan Mehmet I Çelebi on the site of a Byzantine church. The famous decoration, which makes it so successful, will be carried out after his death in 1424. Its facade is made of white marble and the prayer hall is decorated with blue-green glazed tiles. Its architecture in inverted T is characteristic of the first creations of the Ottoman era.
