BEYLERBEYI
Its Mahmud II fountain and mosque make it a charming neighborhood, not to mention its palace(Beylerbeyi sarayı). This one is easily spotted as it is just below the Boğaziçi Bridge (15 Temmuz şehitler Köprüsü). The Debreli Ismail Paşa yalısı built in 1778, in baroque and Ottoman style, is a luxury hotel. Close to the historic city, the area was already popular during the Byzantine period. According to legend, Constantine I the Great had a cross installed here, which is said to have given the area the name Stauros ("cross" in Greek).
