The museum is housed in the building of the former medersa de Beyazıt II. It is the only establishment dedicated to calligraphic arts in the world. It was Sheikh Hamdullah (1429-1520) who revolutionized the six classical spellings of Arabic writing and created the Ottoman style. Ahmed Şemseddin Karahisarı (1470-1556) and Hafız Osman (1642-1698) are the other two great masters of this major art. The museum exhibits stone-engraved calligraphy and beautiful illuminated Korans.
