7 Portes is one of the most emblematic restaurants in the city, offering an extensive journey through traditional Catalan and Mediterranean cuisine. Its 188 years of history support a mature, natural, generous, and updated cuisine, based on local products without renouncing the contributions of international cooking.
7 Portes is a true institution of Barcelona’s cultural life, located near the Port Vell. The restaurant is part of the personal and family memory of many Barcelonians who simply come to share the pleasure of the table and conversation, and it has successfully adapted and refined its offerings according to the tastes of generation after generation of guests.
For nearly two centuries, we have been a meeting point for leading figures in art and literature. Throughout its 188 years of existence, 7 Portes has become the most traditional restaurant in Barcelona, one of the oldest establishments in the city, and one of its most enduring symbols.
The “Cafè de les 7 Portes” was inaugurated in 1836. The expertise of this classic Barcelona restaurant has only grown. Located under the arcades of “En Xifré,” a building declared a historic monument, it has witnessed numerous events: it was the first building in the city to have running water, and its façade appears in the first photograph ever taken in Spain. In 1942, it was acquired by Paco Parellada, founder of one of the most prestigious dynasties of restaurateurs in Catalonia. At “7 Portes,” you can enjoy the highlights of Catalan cuisine all year round, from 1:00 p.m. to midnight without interruption. You may savor, in privacy or in one of its private dining rooms, the best wines and cavas of Spain, kept safe in the large cellar beneath the restaurant.
On the 7 Portes menu, you will find our famous rice dishes and paellas, fresh and popular salads, starters, the traditional cannelloni, seafood, fish, and meat, spoon and fork dishes “on the verge of extinction,” roasts with the traditional picada, as well as tartares.
Our menu brings together a wide culinary repertoire that has evolved and has adapted and refined itself according to the tastes of generations of diners.
