AD-DUKKA, NUBIAN RESTAURANT
Read moreIf you only go to the restaurant in Aswan once, go in front of Egypt Air, along the cornice, to take the shuttle that will take you to the small island. After a fire in 2017, the site was completely rebuilt and the Nubian atmosphere restored, from the decoration to the plate. Prefer the terrace to the hall, the setting is magical. You will find Nubian specialities: grilled meat, tajines, mezze, salads, rice... Service somewhat overwhelmed in high season.
ASWAN MOON
Read moreRestaurant on three levels on the banks of the Nile. You can either choose to gaze at the river and stay on land or dine in the boat and feel the lapping and swirling of the Nile. Being below the level of the Corniche, you also put away its hubbub to better appreciate the view. The menu of traditional Egyptian dishes is unpretentious but flawless. It also offers pasta and pizza specialties and, of course, mint tea and chichas! Very busy in season, it is sometimes necessary to be a little patient.
AL MASRI RESTAURANT
Read moreIt is not easy to find a decent local restaurant in Aswan without finding oneself in the big hotels of the city. The al-Masri restaurant is a good alternative to the big hotels. The restaurant doesn't look like much, but you can eat well and at a low cost. Just a stone's throw from the cornice and five minutes from the train station, everyone knows this typical Egyptian grill restaurant. Not far from the souk too. The reception's nice. There are more locals than tourists, which is a good sign! We eat there pretty quickly.
BEIT EL-NUBI
Read moreThis really is the heart of the matter: an incomparable view of the entire Aswan islands, from the arms of the river, from the desert to the west. Even if you don't eat it (although traditional food is good), take an Nubian coffee to cardamom, a chicha, a good book, and you won't tire out what you're staring at.
CHEF KHALIL
Read moreThis restaurant was opened by the former chef of the Oberoi, whose son took over. Don't be fooled by the rather flashy front, these great fish specialists know how to prepare it perfectly. From the stall, you can choose your catch from Lake Nasser and the Red Sea. The kitchen will cook it at your convenience, fried or in the oven, and serve it with salads, rice and vegetables. If by chance there is lobster, don't sulk your pleasure, if not, go for the big shrimps which are excellent.
MAKANI
Read moreThe Makani restaurant has a pleasant, airy room on the banks of the Nile, with a cheerful, colorful decor. The cuisine is simple and spicy, with the majority of traditional Egyptian dishes on offer. Here, beef and chicken come in all shapes and sizes, deliciously flavored with locally-grown spices. The owner, like his team, is friendly and concerned about the well-being of each and every one of his customers. Pleasant background music punctuates the evening.
KOSHARY ALY BABA
Read moreAn address to remember. Quality Kochery, very good koftas and shawarma, enough to make a quick meal at the right price. It costs 20 euros for half a chicken and a soup. The seafood is the real success of the restaurant. The shrimp dishes are very good. The seafood cream soup is fantastic. On the other hand, the squid dish with tomato sauce is not very good. The waiters are very friendly and smiling. The prices are higher compared to other restaurants, but it's worth it.
