The place, not entirely foreign to movie lovers, served as the unique setting for Gare Centrale, one of Youssef Chahine's most famous films. The large building, built in the 19th century, is rather elegant for a railway station. It remains the junction between the railway and the metro. The colossal statue of Ramses II that stood in the middle of the footbridges has been moved, suffering from pollution. In the middle of the great hall, the information kiosk of the railway station will tell you where you can buy the ticket for your destination.

Visited in november 2023

Immense gare desservie par le métro. Un guichet unique (à l'extérieur à gauche de la gare) à destination des étrangers pour le train de nuit jusque Assouan. Un second guichet pour les autres trains à l'étage dans la gare. Les prix pour les étrangers sont bien supérieurs à ceux pour les égyptiens. C'est un peu limite "racket".
