Travel Guide Pai

Once upon a time, Pai was just a large, peaceful village, surrounded by mountains and crossed by a river, halfway between Mae Hong Son and Chiang Mai. Made up of Thai-Yao, you'll still come across a population originating from mountain tribes such as the Lisu or Lahu, as well as a strong Muslim community. Tourist numbers have soared in recent years, and some establishments go so far as to demand prices that defy all reason. Today, Pai is a small town overwhelmed by the presence of farangs and backpackers, and has almost totally lost its authenticity. Restaurants and bars abound!
