Mae Sot is about 500 km from Bangkok. That is, due west from Phitsanulok or Sukhothai, in Tak province. The town offers a change of scenery and is one of the gateways to Myanmar. The Thai-Burmese Friendship Bridge is 7 km from Mae Sot. The town is ethnically diverse. Thai, Karen, Burmese, Chinese... The same applies to religions: Buddhism for the Thais, Islam for the Burmese and Christianity (Catholic) for most Karen. Many businesses use all three languages on their signs (Thai, Chinese and Burmese).
