Four buses leave Yangon every night to arrive at Hpa-an at night, as usual. Capital of the Karen State, this city on the banks of the Salouen River looks more like a small village where the days are lively and the evenings very quiet. No wonder for the country. Nevertheless the surroundings dotted with rice fields and karst peaks, as in Thailand and southern China, are frankly worth the detour. It is also the most accessible place in Karen country, even if it is now possible to go almost everywhere as long as the political and security situation allows it. It becomes more a question of accessibility in terms of transportation... Here, the population is not fluent in English, but there is always someone who knows a few words. And anyway, the welcome is charming and we will help you everywhere if needed.
