Tak is the quintessential provincial town, located halfway between Mae Sot and Sukhothai, and not far from Kamphaeng Phet. The town stretches along the Ping River. This tributary of the Chao Phraya River, which is quite wide at this point (around 600 m), is spanned by three bridges, including the famous suspension bridge, built in 1982 for Bangkok's bicentenary (a conscientiously maintained work of art, by the way). The modern city is not very interesting, but the region shines with its ethnic diversity and cultural heritage. In particular, you can visit the Taksin Maharat National Park, a reserve with lush vegetation, numerous waterfalls and a few caves.
