4 km north of Arugam Bay. Pottuvil, also called Pothuwila or Pothuvila, is a small town of fishermen and farmers which constitutes a significant "logistical" relay for those lodged in Arugam Bay. With about 33,000 inhabitants, it has a post office, bank, ATM, hospital, grocery stores, market, gasoline... and, of course, the bus station. Its tourist interest is limited to the beautiful ruins of Muhudu Maha Vihara. The city is predominantly Muslim.
