This city of over 370,000 souls is the capital of the province of Lanao del Norte. It is the industrial hub of the southern Philippines. Nicknamed "the city of majestic waterfalls", Iligan is surrounded by some twenty waterfalls, including the famous Maria Cristina Falls, fed by the Agus River: this is the only watercourse coming from Lake Lanao, the second largest in the country after Laguna de Bay, which supplies the city and surrounding area with electricity.
