Its base comprises the provinces of Davao del Sur, Cotabato del Norte, Bukidnon and Agusan del Sur.The mountain is at the heart of Mount Apo National Park, one of the largest parks in the country, spanning 72 800 ha. This national park with mystical beauty has wonderful fauna and flora and is punctuated by sulfur rivers, waterfalls and lakes. Due to its high situation, there is a great diversity of plants, including the waling-waling orchid, or Vanda sanderiana, famous throughout the world. This park is one of the richest botanical gardens in southern Asia. The forest houses, among other Philippine animal species, the Filipino eagle.Apo means "grandfather of all mountains".
