Bacong is just ten minutes south of Dumaguete. It's easily reached by tricycle or jeepney. Considered the smallest town in Negros Oriental (42,000 inhabitants), it lies on the coast, just a few hundred metres from the main road. Anecdotally, at the time of the Moro pirate invasions, the town's inhabitants were renowned for their bravery, repelling the invaders with a cry that has remained famous to this day: "Get up! Get up and fight! Since then, the town's name comes from the word bacon, which in local Visaya means "stand up". The town is also renowned for its exportable crafts and furniture.
