Every year, nearly 250,000 visitors flock to this natural park and its small eponymous village. Located 67 km north of Cuiabá, it is a sort of grand canyon, limited by steep cliffs that cut into vast plateaus, 600 to 800 m high, carved by water and wind and crowned with magnificent waterfalls. This geological wonder is the result of the break between the Brazilian plateau and the Pantanal depression. The vegetation, resulting from the juxtaposition of several ecosystems, is exceptionally rich. Dry and scrubby on the heights, it gradually becomes wet and lush as one descends - botanists will appreciate the variety of medicinal plants. The many fossils are a reminder that this was once the sea. The central position of this plateau region, a natural border between the Amazon basin to the north and the Pantanal to the south, makes Chapada dos Guimarães National Park the main attraction of the area, after the Pantanal. The evenings are cool, breaking the heat of the plain. The park is open all year round, but the best season is the Brazilian summer (i.e. our winter). Visitors will be able to enjoy the freshness of the rivers and waterfalls and, above all, the magnificent horizon from the Mirante will not be altered by the mists, frequent in winter.
