A big village on the edge of the Rio Cuiabá, a little bit sleepy with very few infrastructures to receive tourists. Like Poconé, it is one of the gateways to the Pantanal, 89 km from Cuiabá. But here, no road to continue, everything is done by boat. During the rainy season, it takes 5 hours to get there by boat. A different approach to the Pantanal: a maze of rivers, through the gallery forest, majestic bays, larger than the Guanabara. The eponymous Barao would be a Frenchman. The animals would be rarer there than in other parts of the Pantanal, because of a hunting difficult to control by the IBAMA.
