Located at the top of theEscadaria do Rosario, it is considered the most beautiful on the island. The brotherhood of Nossa Senhora do Rosario e São Benedito dos homens pretos was founded in 1750, mainly by Brazilians of African origin. Slaves built the church in just over 40 years, between 1787 and 1830. Built at the end of the Baroque period, the edifice nevertheless retains its Baroque features. The interior is simple, with holy images.
