Jorge Amado made it the haunt of Gabriela and Nacib, the characters of his novel Gabriela. Its shaded terrace, open to the square (and facing the cathedral), makes it a strategic place to enjoy a beer during a walking tour of the city. Simple and plentiful food at all hours.
