Just off S'Argamassa beach, on the northern outskirts of the town, you'll find one of the most emblematic elements of the island's ancient hydraulic heritage: the remains of a Roman villa flanked by the remains of an aqueduct. Built in the 1st century, the aqueduct was once 425 metres long and was used to transport freshwater to fish-farming ponds. Garum, a fermented fish sauce consumed throughout the Roman Empire, was also produced here.
