Wasini is a small island that has kept its charm, its calm and its traditions. The island has two small villages. The one of Wasini was built around the ruins of an old Arab city. The inhabitants occupy their days by fishing, building dhows and fetching fresh water on the coast because there is none on the island. The few inhabitants do not pay much attention to the dozens of tourists who pass by daily. The population benefits from the tourist spin-offs, without their life and customs being perverted. You will be asked to respect the Muslim tradition There are two very different ways to visit the island. The first is to sign up for a day trip (through Charly's Claw - wasini.com for example). On the program, snorkeling in the coral reefs, seafood lunch, village visit, with the possibility of a French speaking guide. The other is to stay one night or more on the island. For this, you must have your own camping equipment or stay in small, simple cottages at Mpungunti Lodge. A two or three day stay on this island, cut off from civilization (no car, no road, no running water...), is an unforgettable experience. In both cases, you will not be disappointed. To reach the island, you will have to take a dhow or a matatu-boat from the Shimoni jetty.
