This small, easily accessible reserve stretches across the forested hills overlooking the beaches of Tiwi and Diani. It consists of vast grasslands and lush rainforest where you can see two of Kenya's most beautiful orchids. The reserve is inhabited by an endemic species of antelope, the Sable antelope, and many small mammals (elephant shrews, bushy-tailed mongoose, fruit bats...), but the animals remain difficult to observe. A few kilometers away is the Mwaluganje Elephant Sanctuary. Created in 1993, it is intended to be a migration corridor for elephants between the Shimba Hill's reserve and the Mwaluganje forest. The local population was immediately and closely involved in the management of this sanctuary. The Shimba Hills Triangular Forest project has been launched by the North East Frontier Rangers to develop ecotourism by organizing 1.5 hour tours.Just south of the reserve, near Elephant Lookout, are the beautiful Sheldrick's Falls. After a good half-hour walk through the forest, you reach a large natural pool located at the foot of the falls. The setting is very pleasant and you can even swim. For safety reasons (buffalos and elephants also appreciate the place), it is strongly recommended to be accompanied by the ranger who presides over the start of the hike.
