Swept by the wind and the dust, Maralal has an atmosphere of a frontier town, with its large streets lined with verandas in the style of the Far West towns. For those who come from Turkana, it is the return to "civilization"... For those who come from the south, it is the last living place before the great desert expanses of the north. It is thus an important stage if one continues its road towards the northern "No Where" The road that crosses the Pokot Country from Maralal to Baringo is one of the most beautiful of the country. In the dry season, it connects Baringo with the Samburu and Shaba reserves. From Maralal, we pass by Kisima then by Suguta Marmar (very nice market on Thursday). At the intersection of the road that leads to Nyahururu (through Rumuruti) and the one that leads to Baringo (before reaching the Rift Valley), we can observe a beautiful example of Pokot habitat. We finally cross Tangulbei, but be careful! About three kilometers further, take the left track! The one on the right would take you towards the north, in a small village called Nginyang (from where it is possible - but difficult - to join Marich Pass or Lokichar on the road to Lodwar!) The landscapes crossed are of a remarkable variety and beauty. This route requires an all-terrain vehicle, a good road map and a reserve of gasoline
