GIANT MUSHROOMS
Go there and contact
Giant mushrooms and wooden works of art colour the streets of Saugues.
Before you leave Saugues, take a look at the giant mushrooms carved from chestnut wood by Saugues foresters, which can be seen growing in and around the village streets. Also worth seeing on the road to Le Puy-en-Velay, which overlooks the village, is a gigantic Bête du Gévaudan (Beast of Gévaudan) in carved wood, as well as other works of the same type, such as these wild hazelnuts at the entrance to the town, in homage to Robert Sabatier, a local boy. His grandfather was a blacksmith on rue des Fossés in the first half of the 20th century.
