Overlooking the Allier Gorge from a granite plateau at an altitude of 1,484 m, Saugues is the fifth stage on the Pilgrim's Way to Santiago de Compostela. Situated on the borders of three départements in an unspoilt natural setting, the Pays de Saugues is a tourist center with a rich architectural heritage: Tour des Anglais, Collegiate church of Saint-Médard, Notre-Dame d'Estours... It's also a land of tradition and history, as evidenced by the Confrérie des pénitents blancs, its wool-making history and, above all, the story of the Beast of Gévaudan. Pilgrims will find it easy to find lodgings and tables before continuing their journey on the Margeride and Aubrac plateaus.
