COUDENBERG
Visit the underground ruins of the former Palace of Charles V, whose foundations and a street have survived its destruction.
As early as the 12th century, the former palace of the Dukes of Brabant, and later of Charles V, dominated the city from the Coudenberg hill. Considered one of the most beautiful in Europe, it was destroyed by fire in 1731, then razed 40 years later to create the Place Royale district. Today, you can visit its archaeological remains: rue Isabelle and the palace foundations, which still support the royal quarter. The best finds from the excavations are also on display.
