The first anthropological museum created in Spain, in 1875, is housed in a 19th century building and shares its premises with the National Library of Spain. In addition to temporary exhibitions on a specific theme, the permanent rooms present the culture of the different peoples of America, Asia, Europe and Oceania. The room dedicated to the Philippines is particularly rich following Spain's long presence in these islands.

Located in the Ministry of the Navy, the museum recounts Spanish naval history using models, maps and instruments used for navigation. Room XVI of the museum is devoted to Franco times.
