Budget & Tips
There are many outlets on the outskirts of the capital. And if the Spanish brand Zara is already cheaper than in France, the Lefties store, on Calle Carretas towards the Puerta del Sol, offers end of series of the famous brand with discounts ranging from 10% to 60% without having to wait for the months of sales.
Sales
As in France, the sales start in January. The official date is January 7, the day after Epiphany, but often the stores start as early as January1. And it lasts until... the end of March. But all year long, you can find low prices in all the big stores.
What's very local
From Madrid, of course, you need to bring back some ham. A good piece of jamónthat can be vacuum-packed for air transport. You'll also be able to pick up a pair of handmade espadrilles for next summer, a high-quality fan to display on your bookshelf, turrón (nougat), a ceramic dish, Real Madrid goodies and, of course, clothes, always less expensive than in France.
Tourist traps
As in many capitals, small tourist shops abound in the city center. A paella dish, a fan or a Real shirt? Made in China, of course!
