Beautiful building in downtown Oakland with Baroque, Spanish and Moorish ornamentation
This magnificent building is located in downtown Oakland. Built in 1925, it was originally the showroom of the Robert Howden & Son company, which sold coats, grilles, floor and wall tiles. Designed by McWethy and Greenleaf, it is today a precious testimony to the superb Art Deco era, and stands out for its orange and black facade featuring Spanish Baroque and Moorish ornamentation. Robert Howden also built a small castle at Ben Lomond, near Santa Cruz.
