Located 56 km south of Hamilton, this town of 3,300 inhabitants sees its numbers more than doubled by international visitors. Known for its Kiwi House, where the star animal was seen in captivity for the first time, Otorohanga also benefits from its proximity to the much-visited Waitomo Caves: at least half a million visitors each year. In 1986, the town briefly took the name of Harrodsville in support of one of its restaurateurs, Henry Harrod, while the famous London store of the same name tried to get him to change the name of his establishment and threatened him with legal action.ISITE: Monday-Friday 10am-4pm. +64 800 12 2665
