THE PLACE OF THE CLAUZEL
The place du Clauzel was until 1654 a cemetery where the poor of the Hôtel-Dieu in Puy-en-Velay were buried.
In Languedoc, the word "clauzel" refers to a small enclosure, but until 1654, this square was a cemetery where the poor of the Hôtel Dieu were buried. Every Saturday from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., a flea market is held here. The tourist office is located on this square, right next to the town hall. Completely renovated and recently inaugurated, this square used to be a parking lot... Today, it's paved, boutiques have sprung up and the terraces of the neighboring cafés are enjoying the benefits.
