MUSEUM OF RELIGIOUS ART
A museum preserving sculptures, paintings, and silverware, housing a treasure, including the most valuable piece.
Housed in the former Salle des États du Velay - on the second floor of the Mâchicoulis building - the Museum of Religious Art was founded in 1895 by Aimé and Louis Giron. This vast room houses sculptures, paintings and silverware. Of particular note are the two imposing warriors of the Theban Legion and several bas-reliefs. Also worth a visit is the cathedral's sacristy, which houses a fine treasure trove, the most precious of which is the famous Theodulf Bible, a remarkable manuscript executed in 794-798 by Benedictine monks.
