THE STONE-CARDINAL CENTRE
Immense and imposing building which was successively, since the 17th century, a convent of the Sisters of Sainte-Marie, a military barracks during the Revolution and the city's first museum under the name of Mouton-Duvernet (general born in Le Puy, shot in Lyon in 1816 for his rallying to Napoleon). After the First World War, the garrison left the area and the building became a girls' high school. It then housed a college until 1976 before becoming an association house and youth hostel. Pierre Cardinal is a poet and troubadour who from 1180 to 1278 was one of the most vigorous talents in literature in the language of Oc. The Centre Pierre-Cardinal hosts many events throughout the year, including the Les Nuits Basaltiques festival dedicated to dance, music and song in July.
