LAVAUDIEU ABBEY CLOISTER
Cloister built in the middle of the 11th century, a unique Romanesque masterpiece in Auvergne, with capitals decorated with plant motifs.
The abbey's cloister is a Romanesque masterpiece, unique in Auvergne. Most of the capitals are decorated with plant motifs, and some feature symbolic anthropomorphic figures. Symbolically, they represent the seven deadly sins. We recommend a guided tour (approx. one hour) to better understand what led Robert de Turlande, founder of the Chaise-Dieu abbey, to set up a small priory of nuns here in the 11th century.
