Located in the heart of the Sierra del Escambray, 19 km north of Trinidad in the direction of Santa Clara, the Topes de Collantes Natural Park should attract lovers of virgin nature. After the colonial architecture of Trinidad and the shores of the Caribbean Sea, the mountains and tropical forests of the central part of the island are next. Benefiting from a unique microclimate (16°C to 23°C) and abundant rainfall, the park extends over 12,494 hectares, at an altitude of 800 m. Its multiple trails and dense forest will constitute one of the most secure places of the Castro guerrilla during the war against the armies of the Batista regime. Beyond the history, it is especially the occasion to linger on a very rich natural environment perfectly preserved. Some sites to remember: Batata, the Codina farm, el Salto de Caburní, Guanayara and the La Represa garden: different species of trees from all over the world were planted there in the 1930s.
