TOMPKINS SQUARE PARK
Park organizing a punk concert every year to commemorate the events during the assault of many homeless.
The park, which differs little from the city's other green spaces, is of interest above all for its recent history. In August 1988, the municipality, determined to regain control of this park where many homeless people were squatting, sent in a police raid. The result: 44 injured and images of unprecedented violence. Despite numerous complaints from activists who were present and beaten during the raid, no police officers were prosecuted. Since then, an annual punk concert has been held in the park to commemorate the events.
