TRUMP TOWER
A 66-story glass building with a Trump bar and grill on the first floor and a triplex on the top floor.
This is the best-known of all the skyscrapers owned by Donald Trump, for it was from the fifth floor that the real estate magnate led his campaign to the White House. This glass building reflects the folie de grandeur of its owner, Donald Trump, the megalomaniac real estate giant who became President of the United States from 2017 to 2021: a 58-storey building, his name in gold letters on the façade, overlooking New York's most famous avenue, 5th Avenue. The building's interior, all gilding and pink marble, is well worth the detour, in keeping with his good taste and sense of humility... On the first floor, large display cases showcase Trump items in honor of Donald or his daughter Ivanka: ties, mugs, pins, bath towels, golf balls, all available in the basement in the Trump Store! It's possible to take the stairs to the third floor, where there's a small balcony offering a view of the adjacent buildings of Midtown East. For a time, after the election, only the building's residents had access to it for security reasons. Of particular note are the Trump bar and the Trump Grill on the first floor, not to eat there (the food is expensive and not famous), but to notice, once again, how much Trump likes his name to appear everywhere. On the top floor is the Trump family triplex. The few known photos of this penthouse, valued at $50 million, reveal a very blinged-out décor: marble floors, Greek-style statues, columns, chandeliers and a gold ceiling... This was the candidate's campaign HQ during the Republican primary and during the 2016 presidential election. For months, 24/7, cameras were set up on Fifth Avenue in front of the building, provoking clashes between supporters of the candidate and journalists, accused of favoring Hillary Clinton during the campaign. In the few weeks between his election and inauguration, Donald Trump exercised his power here, appointing his cabinet and turning Trump Tower into a second White House. The building, protected by the US Secret Service, was closed to visitors between November 2016 and summer 2017 for security reasons. It is once again accessible to visitors, who must nevertheless undergo a security check. In New York, the tower remains the place where all protests against the Trump administration converge.
