THE RED ROOM AT KGB BAR
Opened in 1993 in a former private club for communists and socialists, the KGB Bar has retained its retro atmosphere, with propaganda posters, red curtains and a statue of Lenin. And in the 1920s-1930s, during Prohibition, the building was controlled by mafioso Lucky Luciano: so much for finding yourself in a place steeped in history! On the second floor, The Red Room cultivates the atmosphere and aesthetics of New York speakeasies, with jazz, burlesque shows and literary open mics, every evening except Sunday.
