Ammarnäs is located on the last part of the Kungsleden trail. The trail is easy to walk and mostly passes through a low mountainous landscape, but it also passes by powerful mountains, the highest of which is Sytertoppen. The trail continues through the Vindelälven nature reserve, where bare mountains alternate with moorland, birch forests with swamps, lake systems, streams and waterfalls. Halfway along the trail is the beautiful lake of Tärna (Tärnasjön) and the Touring Club chalet. There is a wood-fired sauna on the lake shore. The distances between the cabins are quite short; one stage is 20 km long.
