These four buildings, arranged around a rectangular square, have facades decorated with beautiful bas-reliefs representing anthropomorphic figures, animals (snakes, jaguars, owls) or masks of the god of Rain, Chac. According to the Spaniards, the openings leading to the interior chambers were to serve as a residence for Mayan priests, hence the name Quadrilateral of the Nuns. This is where one sits in the evening to watch the sound and light show.
