Close to Tijuana, only a 25-minute drive south, Rosarito attracts city dwellers in search of beaches. Its reputation dates back to 1927 and the opening of the Rosarito Beach Hotel, where celebrities flocked. The hotel is still open today and hosts many weddings and events. The Rosarito of today, however, has changed a great deal since the golden age, which has faded somewhat as the coastal fringe has been urbanized. Today, it is a rather peaceful coastal town, which fills up with gringos during the holiday periods and long weekends across the border
