120 km southwest of Puebla. Tehuacán is a beautiful city located in the Tehuacán-Cuicatlán Biosphere Reserve. It is famous for its mineral water (Peñafiel) which is sold in bottles all over Mexico, its cathedral, the former convent of El Carmen and its numerous public cold water baths. A few kilometers from the city, once past the Tehuacan valley, the landscape changes and suddenly becomes very arid. The only plant that manages to grow in this environment is a long cactus made of a single trunk. Millions of these cacti cover the hills and valleys visible on both sides of the road.
