ARTESANIA GUILLÉN
Originally from Yamasá, these five brothers have made a specialty of reproducing original sculptures and cemis, the idols of the Taïnos. They set up a workshop that today employs around thirty people. They process the clay, then hand-model and sculpt statuettes and ritual objects before firing and patinating them. Winners of the Areíto (Artisans of the Year) prize in New York, they have also presented their work in the Louvre's Tactile Gallery at Bellas Artes, enabling the visually impaired to experience their beauty.
