Things to see and do The Lamentin

La Favorite is one of the island's last two family-run distilleries, and the last to still operate the traditional steam engine! In 2022, the distillery celebrated its ^180th harvest, bringing out a whole new range of original cuvées! Set amidst sixty-two hectares of sugar cane, the emblematic distillery, founded in 1842, produces around 500,000 liters of pure cane juice rum every year between February and June, using traditional, artisanal methods and its 1906 steam engine. Our white rums (Rivière Bel Air, Digue...), aged rums (the famous Flibuste, Réserve du Château or Privilège pour Lulu) and "hors d'âge" rums, which regularly win awards at national and international tasting competitions, delight the palates of connoisseurs the world over.

The distillery is open to the public, so you can stroll around at your leisure, meet the farm workers on site, and discover the secrets behind the crafting of this agricultural rum in the purest tradition. Here, the cane is still cut by hand, and crushed using the energy produced by the original steam engines. The visit, which we highly recommend if you're a lover of authenticity, ends with the tasting room and the boutique dedicated to the sale of these exceptional rums. The history of the estate and its owners is presented. Prepare to be drawn in by the scent of vanilla, roasted coffee and rum, while the sound of the machines will take you back 100 years.

Organizer of the Lamentin Jazz Project, the Lamantins de la Mode, Danmyé Samdi Glorya, Mad'Akoustik, Bitasyon, or the Nuit du Conte in March, this very active cultural center has many talents. For the pleasure of all, tenors and young prodigies share their love for instruments that are a bit neglected and dance to bewitching rhythms. Awarded the "Jardin Remarquable" label, this livestock farm created in 1993 houses gardens, a restaurant, a butcher's shop, a fishmonger's, a concert hall and a wildlife park with a permanent collection of local plants. Guests include macaw parrots, ibises, flamingos, peacocks and farmyard animals. A children's playground with zip-line, swings and pirate ship completes the picture... Organic farmers' market on Saturday mornings.

It's unthinkable to stay in Martinique without taking the time to learn a little about bananas, the symbol, along with sugar cane, of the Caribbean islands. Habitation Belfort is a farm that has been established for over thirty years in the commune of Le Lamentin. It specializes in banana cultivation, exporting 90% of its production. It covers an area of over 65 hectares. The aim of the farm is to preserve and perpetuate agricultural activity, and since 2007 it has been awarded the Global Gap label for its sustainable agriculture. The main attraction of this visit is to get inside a real farm that operates on a day-to-day basis, giving you a better understanding of the reality of production. The guided tour lasts around an hour and ends with a tasting of local produce. Last but not least, a banana kid is on hand to help children take an educational tour. After your visit, we recommend a stop at the pretty boutique at the entrance, where you'll find local banana products. The estate is also home to a majestic Creole villa, known as "Les Jardins de Belfort", a dream setting in the middle of the plantation. This villa and the little train are often privatized for seminars, weddings or cultural events. A privileged stopover to discover without delay.
